Jude Bellingham Crowned 2023 Golden Boy:
Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has been crowned the 2023 Golden Boy, winning the prestigious award for the best under-21 footballer in Europe by a landslide.
The 20-year-old England international claimed the prize with a staggering 97% of the vote from journalists across the continent, adding to his Kopa Trophy triumph earlier this year when he was also voted the best young player in the world.
Bellingham beat out competition from Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund, Barcelona duo Pedri and Gavi, and others to win the 2023 award. Previous Golden Boy winners include Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, Wayne Rooney and Lionel Messi.

After an impressive start to life in La Liga, where he has scored 10 goals in 11 games, Bellingham has clearly shown his talent and ability this season. He has quickly become a key player for Real Madrid since joining them for a fee of around €103 million from Borussia Dortmund over the summer. His form earned him a place in England’s World Cup squad, they easily reached quarterfinals but defeated by France due to few errors but he showed his potential to the world.
Bellingham’s great playing style at his club has also been seen in his international matches. He has played 27 times for England and is a very important player for both his club and his country.
Unfortunately, a shoulder injury means Bellingham will miss England’s upcoming games against Malta and North Macedonia in Euro 2024 qualifying. But he will be hopeful of returning soon for Real Madrid and continuing his fantastic form this season.
As Bellingham recovers, the Golden Boy ceremony in Italy also saw awards handed out to senior players like Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, who won the men’s Golden Player for the best over-21 player, and Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmati, who claimed the women’s prize.

There were also honors for managers, agents and executives across Europe. Arsenal director Edu Gaspar won Best European Manager, Brighton owner Tony Bloom was named Best European President, and Moises Caicedo’s agent Ali Barat was awarded Best Agent.
Bellingham’s prize recognizes him as the continent’s most talented young footballer as he continues his rapid rise to stardom. If he can maintain his outstanding performances, a Ballon d’Or could soon be within reach.
