Wayne Rooney leaves DC United as Man Utd and England legend now without club:
Wayne Rooney has left his position as head coach of DC United by mutual consent, after the club missed out on a spot in the MLS playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.
Rooney said it was the right time for him to move on, and that he had done everything he could to get the club into the playoffs. He has no plans for his future yet, but has indicated that he will be heading back to England.

Despite the improvement, DC United missed out on a spot in the playoffs by two points. This was a major disappointment for the club, which had not reached the playoffs since 2019.
Rooney had said last month that he was frustrated about the a lack of discussion over his expiring contract. The club has been without a general manager since Lucy Rushton was fired last October, with president of soccer operations Dave Kasper and technical director Stewart Mairs handling roster decisions.
Rooney’s wife and family have remained in England while he has been working at the club.
Rooney has already been linked with the Birmingham City job. John Eustace is attracting interest from clubs elsewhere and the Mirror understands Rooney is viewed by the club’s American owners as a potential replacement.
