Robert Lewandowski to MLS? Polish Striker Attracts Interest from Multiple Teams Ahead of Contract Expiry:
Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski is rumored to be a top target for multiple Major League Soccer clubs looking to fill their designated player slot this offseason.
The 35-year-old Polish international has spent most of his illustrious career with Bayern Munich before making the switch to Barcelona this past summer. He has continued his goal-scoring form in Spain, making him an attractive option for MLS teams seeking a high-profile striker.
According to reports, Robert Lewandowski could make the move to MLS as early as 2024 when his Barcelona contract expires, unless a transfer fee is paid to acquire him sooner. In a September 2022 interview with AS, Lewandowski spoke about wanting to end his career in MLS, saying “Before the coronavirus pandemic, the idea of MLS was firmly in my mind. But somehow I changed my mind afterwards. After the chapter at Barcelona, that’s difficult to imagine.”

Among the potential MLS landing spots for Lewandowski are Los Angeles Galaxy and Inter Miami. The Galaxy recently parted ways with longtime striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez while Miami is expected to move on from Luis Suarez. Both clubs have a history of signing big-name designated players.
For now, Barcelona seems content having Lewandowski lead the attack while grooming young Brazilian prospect Vitor Roque as his eventual successor. But this summer’s transfer window could see Lewandowski finally make his long-rumored move to MLS.
